simon lott ii was born in 1982 in baton rouge, louisiana into a family of classical musicians. he began playing drums professionally around baton rouge and new orleans at age 15. he holds a degree in english literature from louisiana state university. after hurricane katrina, he lived in new york city for two years and played in charlie hunter's trio.


since then, he has returned to the south. he has taught drumming and improvisation at the university of new orleans and currently teaches privately. he has also taught the past two years at the national guitar workshop in new milford, connecticut.

lott currently plays with good enough for good times (with robert mercurio and jeff raines of galactic and keyboardist joe ashlar), WATIV (with william a. thompson iv, chris alford, and james singleton), the dual (the music of david polk with johnny mcandrew and jason spring), will bernard, and various other aggregates. he is a member of the collective renwicke; they have just released a cd on 8bells records entitled it's ok to sit in the middle of the road henry. recent releases featuring his drumming are new recordings by george porter jr., monika h. band, WATIV, and tim collins. up-and-coming releases include his own things and a release by pain relief (featuring guitarist/genius mike gamble. he is also producing an album by a keyboardist from el dorado, arkansas called diamond kinkade.


lott also has put together many evenings of music featuring some of the best musicians and ensembles in modern music. these events have been hosted in new orleans at hiho lounge and dragon's den. some musicians/bands that have been featured are: chris alford, james singleton, william a. thompson iv, micah blouin, brian coogan, helen gillet, justin peake, mike gamble, pete robbins, joseph motter, zing!
